TSMC is reported to have expanded its plans to set up factories in the United States and set up a total of 6 fabs in Arizona

According to news from the Hong Kong Economic Times on the 4th, TSMC reportedly plans to expand its plant in Arizona, the United States. TSMC announced in May last year that it would spend US$12 billion to set up a plant in Arizona. A person familiar with the matter said that TSMC is planning to expand the plant there. Build up to 5 fabs, but it is not clear how much additional capacity and investment will be added.
TSMC’s first 12-inch wafer fab will land in Phoenix. It is expected to be mass-produced in 2024. The monthly production capacity is expected to reach 20,000 wafers, mainly producing 5nm process wafers. The report quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that TSMC’s local expansion plan was in response to a request from the US government. TSMC has ensured that it has enough land for capacity expansion. The company expects to build a total of 6 fabs in Arizona in the next three years.
